When I turn volume up to 100%, I do hear a stark difference between these two EQs. At 70% volume, this EQ setting sounds even and unoffensive. A couple others have complained about the same issue. It becomes way muddier, like a slight low-pass filter. One thing to note is (at least in my pair) when the volume is raised past about 70%, the sound profile deteriorates a lot. Without being able to see the frequency plots, this is just an estimate, but I'm pretty confident this will closely follow the Harman Target curve. To be honest, I can't discern too much of a difference between my EQ and Banbeucmas' EQ in music, just a bit of a duller hi-hat snare drum tone. Comparing the Treble Boost curve with the Flat curve from u/mr_boizoff, the gain at 16k Hz needs to be dropped even further than -4 to line up with the Harman Target to -8. U/banbeucmas has a very good read across on his website and he offered his own prefered EQ setting.īanbeucmas mentioned that the default Treble Boost setting almost perfectly follows the Harman Target with the exception of the very high frequencies. While it is objectively flat, I don't find that it sounds very good at all. U/mr_boizoff put together an analysis and came up with a setpoint that made a very flat response profile. I've put together a table of various EQs I've gathered on forums, reviews, and Reddit. The hi-hats and fuzz end up sounding like grinding white noise. Way too crispy and thin sounding, even worse than the default Treble Boost in the Sony Connect App. I tried Wavelet's Auto EQ in Legacy Mode with Tidal Hifi Plus and it sounded awful. Lots of people recommended Wavelet Auto EQ, but I was disappointed. I was looking for a simple equalizer setting to land close to the Harman Target in the native Sony Connect App, but couldn't find anything. I've not seen any definite answer on a Sony Connect EQ setting to closest match Harman Target (2019). I recently picked up some Sony WF-1000XM4s and wanted to see how to best calibrate them. To preface this, I am not an experienced audiophile, however I am a musician and a mechanical engineer, so objective data and music quality speak to me.
